The project of "Raspadskaya" mine was developed in the early 1960s; it became the largest and most modern coal enterprise in the country. In 1970, "Raspadskaya" was declared a top-priority Komsomol construction site: thousands of young people from all over the USSR came there. The first stage of "Raspadskaya" mine with a design capacity of 2 million tons of coal per year was commissioned on 28 December 1973. The construction of the enterprise was completed five years later, on 27 December 1977, with the commissioning of the third stage. Over the next 10 years, the mine was brought to its full design capacity of 7.5 million tons of coal per year.
In the 1990s, the coal industry experienced a severe crisis, but "Raspadskaya" kept working and managed to develop: it was equipped with modern production complexes, and labor productivity increased. Thus, in 1997, the first JOY treatment complex in Russia was put into operation at "Raspadskaya" mine.
In 2003, "Raspadskaya" Coal Company was established on the basis of "Raspadskaya" mine to unite interrelated enterprises - a group of mining, tunneling, transportation and sales companies. In the same year, the construction of "Raspadskaya-Koksovaya" mine for the production of coking coal of rare 'K' and 'KO' grades began. In 2004, "Raspadskiy" open-pit mine was founded. In 2005, the first stage of "Raspadskaya" processing plant was commissioned. The latest equipment for enrichment of coal of 'ГЖ', 'К', 'ГЖО', 'ОА', 'КС', 'Т' and 'Ж' grades was used In 2005, the second stage of "Raspadskaya" processing plant was commissioned.
In 2013, "Raspadskaya" Coal Company became part of EVRAZ. It united a group of enterprises from Novokuznetsk and Mezhdurechensk areas. It marked the beginning of a new stage of development. A radical modernization and technical re-equipment of production was carried out at "Raspadskaya" Coal Company, and a new safety culture was created.
