Chemical industry

The growth of chemical industry of Kuzbass was especially rapid during wartime, the volume of production during this period increased almost 4.9 times..

The Kemerovo Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant was the leading chemical industry enterprise. During the war years, its team provided up to 40 percent of the nitrogen production of the entire country. Apart from ammonium nitrate, ammonium and weak nitric acid, the plant produced reactive nitric acid, potassium and sodium nitrate, ammonia, ammonium carbonate, battery acid and many other valuable chemical products. The production technology was significantly improved.

In February 1942, a plastic mass plant was evacuated from Orekhovo-Zuevo and put into operation in Kemerovo; in the early 1943 it was named "Karbolit". Since the second half of 1943, the plant was already operating at full capacity.

The Rubezhansk Aniline-Ink Plant, the Kemerovo Salicylic Plant and the Anzhero-Sudzhensk Sulfonamide Plant evacuated to Kemerovo were put in production. In general, the production assets of the chemical industry in Kuzbass doubled during the war, and the annual increase in production averaged 74 percent.

At present, the chemical industry is the third most important industry in Kuzbass, it has a significant impact on the development of mining, metallurgical industry and agriculture.

The chemical complex accounts for 12% of the production volume of the entire manufacturing industry of Kuzbass. About 12 thousand people are employed in the industry.

The chemical industry is represented by the following major enterprises:

• "Azot": ammonia, ammonium nitrate, carbamide, nitric acid, caprolactam, ammonium sulfate and other products.
• "Khimprom": caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, tosol, liquid chlorine, sodium hypochlorite, polypropylene glycol, etc.
• "Organika": ampouled medicines and pills, lidocaine.
• "Znamya": industrial explosives
• "Avexima Siberia": citramone, tramadol, charcoal, sodium chloride (solution for infusion), etc.
• "TOKEM": ion-exchange resins, phenoplasts, phenolic resins, textolite.

KAO "Azot" (Kemerovo) is one of the five largest producers of nitrogen fertilizers in the CIS, the largest supplier of ammonium nitrate to the domestic market and a major exporter of carbamide and caprolactam in Russia. The main consumers of its products are industrial and agricultural enterprises in more than 40 countries of the world.

"TOKEM Industrial Groop" LLC (Kemerovo) is the only enterprise in Russia and the CIS that owns its patented technology for the production of monodisperse ion-exchange resins. The technology developed by the experts of the association is innovative and has no analogues in the world. "TOKEM" LLC is the only Russian manufacturer of cation resins used in the energy and industrial sectors for water treatment.

"Khimprom" LLC is one of the largest Russian enterprises of the chemical industry. The plant specializes in the production of organic and inorganic chemical products. The company produces more than 40 types of products, which are widely used in the metallurgical, food, chemical, oil-extracting and construction industries, in agriculture and other areas.

Drug productionis an important sector of the Kuzbass chemical industry. The leading enterprises in this field are "Avexima Siberia" LLC (Anzhero-Sudzhensk) and "Organika" JSC (Novokuznetsk). They produce a wide range of modern import-substituting medicines: Analgin, Drotaverin, Pancreatin, Andipal, Tramadol, Benzobarbital, as well as antibiotics, cardiovascular drugs, sleeping pills, anesthetics, vitamins, infusion solutions, and others. All of them comply with the requirements of the international GMP standard.
